Where's Wisdom?

Every month, I find myself in disbelief at how fast time has passed. March indeed flew by. Spring break can do that for you. Your prayers for me have been answered. I am refreshed and feeling freer. I am beginning to see the fruit of trusting God and living with an open hand. Thank you for coming alongside me in that. I hope you too can find the peace that goes along with reliance on God. I will continue to confess the battle trusting God can be, especially when it's about those you love.

This month has been a special one. We have had many opportunities for our students to be in the scriptures. It's not that we don't read the Bible typically. It's just that we have been facilitating public readings of scripture to prepare for our Pizza Theology event. This is an event we do every semester across our campuses. All of our campuses meet together in Richardson, we teach for four hours, and for intermission, we eat pizza. It's a beautiful event. We are teaching the wisdom literature: Job, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes. Personally, I have seen God use these scriptures to minister to how I view the difficulties of ministry. Each book sheds light on my current circumstances. I am using this experience to show my ladies how important and relevant scriptures are.

I also had the opportunity to host an opportunity for silence and solitude for our leaders. The practices of silence and solitude have been incredibly meaningful to me. You all know I am a talker. This is a beautiful thing, but I have found this desire to fill space with noise sometimes challenging in my quiet times with God. In 2020, I read an article about different spiritual practices and this duo stood out. You may be thinking, "That is the easiest event to host. You just need space, and poof, be quiet". And, it was. I live by a park. I had two students come with me. We went our separate ways and I took them when and where to meet me. I gave the advice of don't be so hard on yourself if it's hard to keep your brain quiet. The students found it to be easier than they thought. I definitely want to think through more ways to incorporate this practice into my ministry.

Continue praying for my students. Pray over TCC and our ministry there. We are about to finish our second year there. We are sending seven people on our leadership trip to Washington. This is incredibly exciting. Pray over their fundraising for the trip. Pray that they will have boldness and trust God with his provision. Pray we will steward well what he has given us on that campus.

Thank you so much for your support of this ministry. You make this life possible. God is good.

Here's a photo from a worship night at TCC! We got to sit on exercise balls. What a joy!

Here is a glimpse of the game everyone is obsessed with. Our students love NERTZ. I personally am nervous about fast pace, competitive games.

Here's a picture of me and a sweet friend Morgan. She was in my peer team a year ago. She is working on her master's. I get bi-weekly time with her. Such a treat to continue to see her grow and be a part of that journey.

August 2023: Is Bucee Going to FOCUS?

Greetings from Buc-ee's Above is a photo from Buc-ee's on the fourth of July. We got to met the celebrity beaver while visiting my family.  For any of my out of state friends, Buc-ee's is a huge gas station and this beaver is their face and mascot. I just had to get a photo of these two with him.  Here's a photo from our church's dog event. The guy above's name is Mauricio. The dog he is holding is his. We had a good laugh that his beloved dog was a pampered shih Tzu. He and Graham have become great friends over the year. He will be leading in the fall. Pray for our men's side of the ministry. What happens every four years or so is that many of our people graduate. We are coming into this year with fewer men leaders. Pray for them to have courage and boldness to reach out on campus to their classmates, friends and whoever. I'm hopeful with guys like Mauricio that we will meet the people God wants us to this year.  Ministry-wise, we have begun the prepara...

August Update!

This update is full of prayer requests and news! Let’s get started.  I just got back from our summer staff retreat with our entire staff team. One of the key parts I want to underline is: we have not had our entire staff together on a retreat since my apprentice year. Our staff has boomed in size because we are taking on nineteen apprentices this year. Nineteen. It’s exciting to experience a surge of new people and to see our team grow. I had a strange moment during the retreat where I realized some of these apprentices were students when I started back in 2018. Now, I get to partner with them in reaching our campuses this fall. I guess that’s what happens the longer you work at a place.  One of the most exciting updates I have is that we will be pioneering five new campuses this fall. Each team is focusing on a different campus. One thing that has blown me away during my time in FOCUS is how the Lord has worked on community college campuses. I remember visiting a Colli...

May Update

Year 2023-2024 is in the Books! Someone cue a song of celebration. We made it to the end. Above is a photo of our UTA leader team from this past year.  I hope your May is starting off well. May marks for me the end of the school year and the beginning of summer. Which means... I'm even closer to having a baby. All prayers are welcomed and appreciated. I plan to send an update in June focusing on family and ministry in regards to our little bundle of joy. (I totally plan to continue in ministry, so don't fret.) This update is going to be centered on outreach and evangelism. I  wanted to highlight some outreach efforts that have encouraged me this year!  Every year I've been in ministry, we have approached outreach in different ways: whiteboards displayed with thought-provoking questions, pairs of students being sent to pray over people, and we've hosted giant events for international students. The most consistent question we have asked has been, "How do we develop ...
